The Devious Theatre Company proudly present Dario Fo's Can't Pay? Won't Pay! - a madcap marital meltdown from Italy's master of farce.
Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay! was written by the Nobel Prize winning playwright in 1974, inspired by the self reduction movement which saw working class Italian women take what they wanted from supermarkets, only paying what they could afford. Another of his trademark political farces, Can't Pay? Won't Pay saw Fo tackling issues of inflation, unemployment, workers' strikes and the unions, once more tied up in the framework of a wild, slapstick comedy.
The play tells the story of two working class women, Antonia and Margherita, who are both frustrated by rising prices and struggling to make ends meet. Along with the other women in their neighbourhood, they decide to rebel against the cost of living by taking goods without paying. However, hiding the shoplifting spree from their husbands and the pursuing authorities might prove a little trickier than expected. The cast includes Angela Barrett, Ross Costigan, Hazel Fahy, Ken McGuire and Paul Young. The production is directed by John Morton who previously directed Accidental Death Of An Anarchist and Trainspotting for Devious Theatre.
Running Time
Doors open at Set Theatre at 7:40pm each evening. Performance starts at 8pm sharp. There will be one interval of 15 minutes during which time the bar at Set Theatre will be open for tea / coffee / minerals / wines / beers. Approx running time (including interval) 110mins.
